    The Department of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for one, full-time, non-tenure track, 9-month, Assistant Teaching Professor position beginning August 2018. This exciting position is available to Master’s or Doctoral level graduates with exceptional teaching abilities and a desire to support the undergraduate program at Southern Miss. The Department has recently been approved to hire one of the first teaching-track positions. This position will allow talented instructors and opportunity to engage with undergraduate psychology majors, many of whom are from diverse backgrounds and/or first-generation students. Opportunities for undergraduate teaching include courses covering topics such as research methods, introductory psychology, and courses in applied areas, depending on the expertise of the individual hired. We are especially interested in colleagues who support the mission of the University and support undergraduate student success.     The Department of Psychology has approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA-accredited doctoral programs (Counseling, Clinical, & School), master's programs in counseling psychology and applied behavior analysis, and a general/experimental doctoral program (Brain & Behavior).     Responsibilities include teaching 4 undergraduate classes per semester, mentoring undergraduate students, and engaging in student success initiatives and other department and university service. Applicants are expected to demonstrate exceptional teaching and mentoring skills.
    Qualifications include: a master’s or doctoral degree in psychology or related field, by fall of 2018, and the ability to demonstrate exceptional teaching skills. Teaching experience and/or experience with university-level student success initiatives is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to undergraduate education.
